Consumer spending picked up in the July 18 week, according to ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales tally which rose 0.5 percent in the week but still shows a minus 0.3 percent year-on-year pace. This report has been reporting much better conditions than Redbook which will be posted at 8:55 ET this morning.
Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.
